We’ve had Tibetan Mastiffs over 30 years! We acquired our first Tibetan Mastiffs in the early 90’s. Currently, we have 15 TM’s, with four generations present. They range in age from 14 years old down to 4 months old. They are primarily our beloved companions and guardians first, but we also love to show!
We are very proud that our own EVO has won back-to-back Best of Breed at Westminster Dog show in 2018 and 2019. He was the first in the history of our breed in AKC to achieve this! We are also home to AINE, who has won Best of Opposite Sex at Westminster 4 times, a breed record! We are proud to boast that our own Aine has earned 2 AKC Trick Dog Titles of Trick Dog Novice and Trick Dog Advanced! Aine was very willing and I made it fun for her! We show mostly in the Southeast, but have also attended prestigious events such as Westminster, The National Championship, ATMA National Specialty and Bucks County. We’ve won back to back the Best of Breed Bred-By Exhibitor competition at Eukanuba Championship Dog Show for 2012 and 2013, as well as Best of Breed, and many Best Bred By Exhibitor in Breed wins over the years at the present Royal Canin AKC National Championship! Over the years, we’ve been the home and breeders to Best in Show winners, the #1 Tibetan Mastiff, Top Ten Tibetan Mastiffs, Top 5 Tibetan Mastiffs, National Specialty Winners, Best Veteran, Best Stud Dog, Best Brace, Best in Veteran Sweepstakes and Best in Puppy Sweepstakes. We are an AKC Breeder of Merit!!! We breed to the AKC Standard. We do not breed for “Chinese type.”

Our dogs are in the top rankings every year! We’ve also has the Top Producing Brood Bitch,(based on number of championships earned by her offspring in one year). Numerous dogs of ours have qualified for the past Eukanuba as Bred By Exhibitor AKC Champions, since AKC inception. We’ve also has Top 25 Dogs as qualifiers in years past. Presently, we enjoy top 5 and top 10 rankings every year! In addition, we’ve had many Top 5 TM’s that have been invited to Westminster! All of our litters have produced Champions and Bred By Exhibitor Champions!
Our goal is to produce outstanding type, health, structure, and most of all great temperaments! Of our 15 Tibetan Mastiffs, 12 are AKC champions, or Grand champions. Most achieved their championships being shown from the Bred-By Exhibitor class. We take great pride in being owner/handlers! We are a current member in good standing of the AKC Parent Club for Tibetan Mastiffs, the American Tibetan Mastiff Association. We’ve been a member of the Parent Breed club for over 2 decades! Aujudon Tibetan Mastiffs does judges education and judge mentoring year around. Often, at shows we are asked to mentor AKC judges who wish to judge Tibetan Mastiffs. HISTORY and TRAITS Tibetan Mastiffs have a rich history with the Tibetan people. They were used for millenniums as guardians for the nomadic camps, villages and monasteries. Often they were chained at the entryways of tents and monasteries. At night, in the villages, they were turned loose to roam, to keep the village safe. Many images can be found of TM’s on rooftops enjoying an advantageous view for their guarding. We have several puppies bred by us living outside the United States, including Italy, Guatemala and South America.
Although some sources voice that TM’s are very destructive, I have found that given good guidance, training, plenty of exercise and ample chew toys, TM’s make very pleasant housedogs. TM’s are very intelligent and need plenty of stimulation to keep from being bored. As natural flock and home guardians, TM’s need a job to do and space to exercise in. If not given a job, and daily stimulation, they will find plenty of outlets for their energy, and some may not be positive. Please note that while Tibetan Mastiffs will protect livestock and flocks, they are not traditional livestock guardian dogs in the sense that a Great Pyrenees or Maremmas are. I’ve found they do not bond with the flocks/animals, they are more interested in guarding the area they are in. Our TM’s of the past were raised with our children and they did very well together! As with any child/dog relationship, there must be boundaries and mutual respect. Our children are grown now, but we continue with each litter of puppies, our young adult and adult TMS to have them around children. Our grandchildren are welcomed by the TMS and we have started with our grandson showing in AKC Pee Wee Handling. In addition, we often have young people who are interested in showing and learning about dogs, accompany us to shows to help us handle. They are not for everyone, as they are very independent, can be very aloof, and although very intelligent, many do not enjoy the repetitiveness of formal obedience. You must use different methods to keep a TM interested and entertained.
Tibetan Mastiffs must have secure fencing. They are not reliable to come when called due to their independent nature. Without boundaries, they might think your property, your neighbors and half the neighborhood are “theirs” to guard. Wireless boundary fencing does not work with them. They will take the shock to go out past the boundary, but are much too smart to take a shock to come back in. Once you have the pleasure of owning a Tibetan Mastiff, you will find they are like no other breed. Their intelligence is simply remarkable, they bond closely with their families and are natural guardians. Their striking beauty and nobleness are a bonus! You will find them to be people magnets when you are out in public.
